Schizophrenia affects about 1% of the population and causes a tremendous burden on patients and families; it is a complex and heterogeneous mental disorder.
Patients with schizophrenia present with diverse symptoms (ie, positive, negative, and cognitive), and the course and response to treatment varies widely.
Optimal management requires accurate patient characterization and a long-term holistic approach, where remission and recovery are the ultimate goals.
Patient population is quite heterogeneous and clinical trials usually offer insights on a specific setting. How do we approach a broader population in day to day practice? What are the main goals? The appropriate treatment strategies should address the complexity of each patient, their peculiar symptoms with a personalized approach.
A panel of experts from different countries will share and discuss with psychiatry clinical practitioners their clinical practice, focusing on appropriate treatment strategies to address key symptoms, comorbidities and optimal patient response. Added value of this meeting comes from the different European clinical experiences discussed that will result in shared practical indications on personalized schizophrenia treatment management.
