Schizophrenia affects about 1% of the population and causes a tremendous burden on patients and families; it is a complex and heterogeneous mental disorder.
Patients with schizophrenia present with diverse symptoms, and the course and response to treatment varies widely. Optimal management requires accurate patient characterization and a long-term approach, where remission and recovery are the ultimate goals.
Clinical trials usually provide solid data about the efficacy and tolerability of pharmacological treatments in a specific setting, while real-world experience can improve the knowledge in broader clinical scenarios. Overall, this can facilitate the implementation of treatment strategies to address each patient’s complexity, where common symptoms are complicated by clinical comorbidities, with a personalized approach.
A panel of experts from different countries will share and discuss with psychiatry clinical practitioners their clinical practice, focusing on appropriate treatment strategies to address key mental symptoms, comorbidities and optimal patient response, functional recovery, based on day-by-day experience.
